I must say is one of the most impressive landscapes I have ever
experienced in Kenya. Mt. Kenya boasts as the only Mountain laying on the
Equator with its rugged glacier-clad summits and forested middle slopes. This
setting is enhanced by the visual contrast and diversity of landscapes created
between the Mount Kenya looming over the flat, arid, grassland and sparse
wooded plains around its feet Laikipia, Isiolo and Meru counties. It is
like no other in it's uniqueness in biodiversity with varying vegetation
depending on the altitude. Its Afro-Alpine flora is especially captivating and
is definitely worth our time and research. At the lower altitude the elephants,
baboons, monkeys, black and white colobus and cape buffalo are
the most common. The park is open for Mountain climbing, camping, Nature
walks, cycling and hiking. Another plus is that it is well placed near
Laikipia, Isiolo and Samburu Counties wildlife havens, So for one visiting from
far you can include Mt. Kenya in your Northern circuit itinerary. For
Kenyans and the rest of visitors who want to spend a good time in the park
without breaking a bank, KWS offers impressive accommodation options
at pocket friendly rates! There are several camping sites
and also a guest house worth checking out.

The vivid description is as picturesque as the scenery...you have provoked my hunger and thirst to visit Mt. Kenya - and for sure I shall. Thank you Ann for the incisive article which says it all about the beauty of Mt. Kenya. I had never imagined that the gates are so strategically placed to project the peak in the background. Splendid and awesome.
